An electronic MPN can be completed in 9 steps. Read the information below to
understand how the electronic MPN process works. We estimate that it will take 30 minutes to complete
the electronic MPN process. Make sure you allow enough time to complete the entire process in a single session.

Direct Loan Electronic MPN Web Site Issue During May 11-12, 2008 Period Resolved
During the period May 11-12, 2008, Federal Student Aid experienced an issue with the Direct Loan Electronic Master Promissory Note (MPN) Web site. The issue resulted in users not being able to proceed beyond Step 3 in the process for completing an MPN.
Federal Student Aid resolved the issue by mid-day on May 12, 2008, and users can now complete the electronic MPN process without issue.
Federal Student Aid apologizes for the inconvenience caused by this issue. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
Information about Increased Annual Loan Limits for Certain Direct Subsidized Loans and Direct Unsubsidized Loans
Effective July 1, 2007, certain Direct Subsidized Loans and Direct Unsubsidized Loans have increased annual loan limits. This information will appear on the MPN Addendum shown in Step 5 of the process.
